 As we escaped the clutches of 2016, a year deemed to be one of the worst in history, and entered bright, shiny and optimistic 2017, I ended up feeling the most shit I have in months.

I'm not really sure why I have been struggling so much, but my anxiety has been through the roof, I've felt a bit lost and confused, and as a result have been acting like a pretty massive arsehole, drinking way more than I should be, and have managed to smoothly make the transition from a 'social smoker' to a full-on chimney. Basically, every single New Year Resolution made by every other person on the planet, I have done the opposite tenfold.

I think the whole 'New Year, New Me' concept that circulates the instant we smash through those party poppers, has allowed the realization to hit me that I'm doing exactly the same shit that I've been doing for the past five years. I have written list after list of goals, aims and challenges I want to complete, yet every December 31, clock strike of 12, hasn't lead to any changes at all.

So, I have decided that 2017 is the year to stop beating myself up. To stop worrying about what other people think, to stop trying to achieve unreachable goals and to concentrate on letting myself be happy.

I don't need to give things up to be a better person - the thing that will make me a better person is to accept my flaws and failures and embrace my mistakes (I promise that's not an excuse to justify any bad behaviour!)

Of course, everyone should aim to better themselves and grow, but why do we punish ourselves so much when we face setbacks, rather than learning to love who we already are, and what we are already achieving?

If you want to make some positive changes to your life in the name of New Year, then I wish you the very best of luck and would love to hear your plans. But for me this year, I thought I would create a fun little list of things that might not be good... but they are what makes me who I am.

So, without further ado, let me introduce you to my ten anti-resolutions:

1. I'm going to stop punishing myself for every little mistake.

2. I am going to continue swearing. I like swearing. I don't care if it isn't very 'lady-like' it sounds fucking good.

3. I might stop smoking, I probably won't.

4. I'm going to stop feeling guilty every time I drink more than a glass of wine.

5. I could go on a diet, or I could accept the fact skinny will never feel as good as a big plate of chicken nuggets, chips and beans tastes.

6. I am going to spend more time with my friends because I love them and I've been absolutely useless for the past few years.

7. I am going to do more things for myself and stop worrying about pleasing everybody else all the time.

8. I will travel.

9. I will be big and brave enough to say no to things I don't want, but also to say yes to things I do.

10. I will acknowledge and rid myself of any and all toxic relationships.

  1. YES! This is such a different twist on the standard resolutions post, and I really enjoyed reading it! I fucking love a good swear as well, anyone who disagrees can fuck right off haha! Ridding yourself of toxic relationships is such a positive step too! You got this, girl!

  4. Everyone should do what they want ~ that's my view so resolution or no resolution everyone is still cool in my book :) I personally give myself a few resolutions but I don't put pressure on to achieve them and they are mostly realistic :) don't set yourself up to fail is the best advice xx
